Dear All, We wish you a happy Christmas and a successful, prosperous 2008. This year seemed to disappear very quickly. They do say that the years go by quicker as you get older! Once again, it has been wonderful to meet new clients and to see all our regular guests through the year. Our regulars were pleasantly surprised with the new layout and renovations done to the house. Hopefully everyone found it a lot more comfortable and will be back in 2008. We did manage to finish the house in time for the Easter bookings, as with any renovation job on an old house; we did find a few hidden challenges. We also managed to complete the all weather turn out and exercise paddock. This has certainly improved the facilities and enables us to turn out the stabled horses in rotation without having to get muddy or injured in the winter months. We would like to thank the ‘Dean Team’ Sue, Shelley, Hannah, Abby and Catherine, who works with us in the holidays, for their continued support throughout out all weathers. They all work hard to make the yard run as smoothly as possible. We still mix teaching, schooling, competing and looking after our clients, so there is never any time for boredom to set in! Our daughter, Shelley got married in September this year, to a very patient chap called Darren. It was great to see Shelley and the staff out of their jodhpurs and boots. It was a magical day at Northcote Manor, the sun shone for once and everyone had a great time. Shelley’s show jumping horses, Kid and Joss are doing very well in the big competitions. Kid is now up two levels since last year and has had to face some challenging competition. The youngster, Joss, is very enjoyable to work with and has had a very good couple of rounds in the 5 year old finals at Wales & West. Both horses are getting placed regularly at present, Kid comes home with quite a few 1st’s and Joss is currently collecting qualifiers for the novice regional / finals. I am still teaching and rider and horse training but keeping jump fit on new acquisition Reggie……… we might go for the veterans next year depending on our fitness and soundness levels!! Hannah is now the new proud owner of Dreamy, and she will be aiming for British Novice classes this next year, Hannah is training here with us and ‘knows better the devil you know’ with Dreamy’s eccentric personality!! Sully moved back to his old owner and Meg is now looking for her next hacking chum, we think we have found him but won’t speak too soon! New horse ‘So’ who is settling very well and shows a nice jump is being used by experienced riders at present and also beginner lessons Leading Rein so she is under training at the present time. Inca, Portia’s daughter, is now escorting hacks out and going to shows to allow her to see more action and is a possible ride for experienced riders in the future, we hope she will make one of the school team. Our usual team of horses are still going strong. Believe it or not, Misty and Masie will be celebrating their 25th birthdays in 2008! Viking, still active is now 29 years old. The annual ‘Sleepover’ in August was great fun, this combines show jumping, flatwork, handy pony and gymkhana races over 2 days, together with the Dean Water Fight and barbecue in the evening. We also ran the Show Jumping Club during the summer months in the evening. This allows some of the girls who are with us every Saturday morning to advance their jumping and generally develop their horsemanship skills. All in all it’s been a very busy year! We all look forward to seeing you all in 2008 to again, not only to enjoy the thrills and spills of horses, but to have a fun and relaxing holiday with us. Regards to you all, Tracy and the Team at Dean. I think we should thank our 4 legged friends for the pleasure they give to so many different levels of riders, without them and their patience, it wouldn’t be Dean. |
